The society’s Zoom meeting on 15th February began with a tribute by Ann Malin to the late Peggy Griffiths, who will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
For the following talk the members once again welcomed Dylan Foster Evans, Head of Welsh at Cardiff University and a former resident of Tywyn, for a talk entitled ‘Pedair Cainc y Mabinogi' /'The Four Branches of the Mabinogi': the greatest medieval Welsh tales? After an exposition on the origins and contents of this key text of medieval Welsh literature, Dylan re-told the Second Branch of the Mabinogi. His performance highlighted the enduring power of the stories to enchant a modern audience, as they have done throughout the centuries. The beautiful illustrations which accompanied the talk proved that the work also continues to inspire artists as well as performers and lovers of the history and culture of Wales. The talk was much appreciated and a discussion followed.
The next Zoom meeting, a follow-up on the theme by members’ contributions, will be on 15th March at 7PM.
