Eisteddfod Badeiriol Chair 1896. Towyn

Post by KarenT »

UPDATE:
We’ve subsequently found out that the chair was awarded to my husband’s Great great grandfather, John Ilar Davies, who lived in Towyn.

Hi there, my husband’s family own (have owned for many generations) what we believe is a Bardic Chair. The inscription on the chair reads:

“EISTEDDFOD
BARDEIRIOL
TOWYN.
1896”

It’s obviously not one of THE National Eisteddfod Bardic Chairs, but we were wondering if you might be able to tell us about the Eisteddfod/Eisteddfodau that took place in Towyn in that year? This may well have been awarded to a relation of my husband’s, and the chair has subsequently been handed-down. Alas, the history of chair has been lost.

I’m unable to upload a photo unfortunately but would be happy to email it?

Many thanks, I’m advance.
