At the society's meeting on Monday 15th November 2021 Michael Freeman, Honorary Research Fellow at the Museum of Wales and former Curator of Ceredigion Museum, gave an engrossing and much appreciated lecture on Snowdon's history and visitors entitled 'Scientists, surveyors and licencees on Snowdon, in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries'. Michael's talk was a tour de force, wide-ranging and liberally illustrated, telling the story from the earliest map-makers, geologists, botanists, artists, intrepid tourists and of course licensees, up to the closing years of the 19th century. Happily, Michael's extensive research on the subject can be accessed on his websites. A lively discussion followed on the continuing story of Snowdonia's iconic mountain.
